Customer Rating: Summary: Man, I'm so sad right now Comment: I loved every single slipknot album to come out, even the "sophomore slump" as many called IOWA to be. So I heard the Psychosocial single and could not possibly wait for Slipknot to put some energy back into the metal of day that has gone soft and emo. God, I was so wrong. You'll probably love this album if you're a stone sour fan, but I do not like them, and this could easily have been a stone sour album and I wouldn't have known the difference. Like I said, they tried to fool the maggots with a couple of heavy tracks in the begenning, but you'll go..."huh?" as they continue to give soft lyrics to a hardcore band. Dont even bother listening to track 12 unless you want to hear how bad Slipknot can be.
I hope they don't go out with this album. Guess I'll probably have to wait another 4 years for metal to come back.
Customer Rating: Summary: Superb Comment: Slipknot never fail to impress me. When you talk about "ambition" in music, Slipknot epitomizes ambition. ALL HOPE IS GONE is no different from other Slipknot albums in the sense of capitolizing on ambition and creativity. It serves as another strong addtion to Slipknot's discography.
".execute" serves an excellent intro to ALL HOPE IS GONE as it is representative of the sounds and ideas that ALL HOPE IS GONE pushes. "Gemantra (The Killing Name)" is where the real meat lies, serving as a fine opening track. From the jagged opening guitar riffs of "Gemantra", you can tell the "masked freaks" are going to take you for quite a trip, as always. They may also drag you to hell with them along the way, if you know what I mean, but maybe that is a risk that listener must make. Content aside, "Gemantra" is certainly creative by all means with it's anthemic screams, sick drumming, sick guitar riffs, and rapid change of styles. Slipknot may not flip-flop styles like say The Mars Volta, but they do a pretty good job at being unpredicatable.
A personal favorite, "Sulfur" features more dark, hellish sounding guitar work. Dark, malicious sound effects run rapid. As far a mixing, this track is well mixed. Panning adds a heightened sense of dramatacism while the layers of guitars blend perfectly. The drums within the production throughout the entire album are well engineered. What is more relatable about this album overall is the "hookiness". There is actually something to grasp onto as opposed to feeling "lost" within Slipknot's dark 'orchestrations'. "Sulfur" is representative of this as is exceptional first single "Psychosocial", which knocaks ALL HOPE IS GONE out of the park. From the opening yelled "I did my time..." to the last note of the last bar, "Psychosocial" is a trip (a freakin' scary one maybe, but a trip).
"Dead Memories" is tamer than the first three full tracks, but not tame enough to still scare you or seem inauthentic for Slipknot. It is 100% solid, as is every track on ALL HOPE IS GONE. "Vendetta" resurrects the creepy sounds not present on "Dead Memories" with chilling cymbal work and jagged, uncouth sounding guitars. Keeping up the trend is the spastic "Butcher's Hook" followed by the understated, yet chilling guitar work of "Gehenna". "Gehenna" doesn't posses the impulsiveness of "Butcher's Hook", but it is even more potent because of its understated nature. However, patches of overwrought screams and hellish ideals make evident that Slipknot are nowhere near wanting to embrace "the light".
"This Cold Black" keeps up the pace with twice the manic nature of "Gehenna". "Wherein Lies Continue", "Snuff", and "All Hope Is Gone" all end the album with the vitality that it began with. "Snuff" is surprisingly a ballad utitlizing acoustic guitars. Even more surprising is that "Snuff" features some major chords! However, when the listener still hears the "f-bomb", you know that Slipknot is still as dark as ever. "All Hope Is Gone" resurrects the jagged guitar lines that pervade "Vendetta". It is quite the appropriate title track. As with all title tracks, there are always better tracks on the album. While this is true, "All Hope Is Gone" ends ALL HOPE IS GONE exceptionally.
Overall, ALL HOPE IS GONE is one sick album, in more ways than one! It is one of the year's best releases in my eyes. It is creative, sinful, and one of those albums "you probably shouldn't listen to, but can't resist." 4 stars.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great to see and hear these guys again! Comment: Slipknot are back, thank god. This album is great, and brutal, and great addition to their previous kick a$$ albums. Play this load and watch the britney/avril albums shrivel up and die.
Customer Rating: Summary: Awful Comment: I have now listened to this cd 4 times and can't come to any other conclusion. It borders on unlistenable. It is very hard to hear commentaries on war and politics from guys wearing clown masks. Slipknot even performs a ballad on this cd. This isn't a case of a band growing but one struggling to find its way and really lacking in anything to be angry about. If you want a hard rocking cd buy Shinedown. Much better!
Customer Rating: Summary: a step forward Comment: alright, everyone knows about slipknot. if ya dont, get out from under the rock you live under. that being said, i was really surprised at how the music sounded for the new album. i enjoyed the last one, and i also enjoyed IOWA. i wasnt a fan of the s/t album as most "maggots" are. i dont consider myself a maggot, im more of a casual listener. in the end, this album is an evolution of the last album. if you enjoyed the last one, then this one may also do the trick. there more thrash riffs on this one. and less acoustic songs. thank god for that, i liked circle on vol. 3 but vermillion pt 2 sucked imo. its heavy, catchy and pissed off. which is how i like my music.

After over 5 million albums sold in the US, Slipknot returns with their most powerful statement yet - All Hope Is Gone. Filled with the fury people have come to expect from Slipknot as well as some extraordinary surprises, this album is the culmination of the band' s 9 unique members, three platinum albums and their 10 year journey at the top of the Hard Rock genre. Kicked off by the powerful crescendo that is Execute and Gematria (The Killing Name) and ending with the blistering track All Hope Is Gone - the album is a cohesive statement about the world today and truly cements the band as one of Rock' s heavyweights. The lead single Psychosocial will propel the new album to match and exceed the success of the last album, Vol 3: Subliminal Verses which produced numerous Top 20 songs at Rock radio including a Top 5 track at Active and Modern Rock radio.
