Summary: Muy bueno

Summary: More of the same . . .
Comment: When Ritchie Backmore first went medievel with Blackmore's Night, the results, to may people, were fascinating. "Shadow of the Moon", "Under a Violet Moon" - great stuff. To me, however, as time went on, the whole renaissance fair started to show a few cracks. That's why I give this one 3 stars. Sure, it all SOUNDS real nice and quaint, but it also sounds just like the last 3 or 4 Blackmore's Night CD's. Nice stuff, but the medievel well sounds like it could be running a bit dry.

Summary: Not their best, but still great.
Comment: Blackmore's Night has carved out a pretty decent specialty niche...call it "Renaissance Rock". There are other groups who try to do this type of music, but most of them lack the sheer unadulterated talent that Ritchie Blackmore and Candace Night bring to the table.

This CD is great. It's not as good as "Fires At Midnight", but it's better than "Village Lanterne" and "Ghost Of a Rose".

My favorite tracks on this CD are "Locked Within the Crystal Ball" and "Sister Gypsy".

My niece says she wants to be Candace Night when she grows up (smile)!

Summary: What was Ritchie thinking?
Comment: I have been a big Ritchie fan for years. Even when he started Blackmore's Night. But this one is way too much... Don't get me wrong, he still can play and everything, but this is one of his worst outings. Based on the selection of the material alone, it looks like Ritchie is running out of creative ideas. And the singer's vocals are purely annoying, really... Ritchie, call Joe Lynn Turner.

Summary: Great album, but where's the bonus video?
Comment: I purchased this CD as a gift and the receiver was very happy with it except for one thing: the bonus music video of the song "Village Lanterne" was nowhere to be found on the disc! After attempting to find it by playing the album in both a computer and a DVD player, the video still would not appear. This was most frustrating and confusing as the back cover of the album clearly lists the video after the musical tracks. I think what may have happened is that the bonus video only came with the Secret Voyage Limited Edition Digipak album and the regular album does not have the video but it's listing was mistakenly left on the regular album back cover. That is why I give the CD four stars rather than five; other than the mysterious video issue, this album is a real musical treasure. ^_^

Editorial Reviews:

Secret Voyage is another kaleidoscopic musical journey through time and space, incorporating and rearranging traditional melodies from all over Europe, blending the "old" and contemporary. The brilliant guitar stylings of Ritchie Blackmore, the enchanting vocals and lyrics of singer/songwriter Candice Night and the saturation of authentic Renaissance instruments woven throughout the melodies, create a unique style of music they call Renaissance/Folk/Rock. Secret Voyage consists of twelve new tracks, recorded by Candice Night, Ritchie Blackmore and their Band Of Minstrels. This musical journey is inspired by nature and incorporates acoustic and electric guitars, strings, renaissance instruments and Candice Night s ethereal voice and mystical lyrics.
